Doors and guards and bumpers off. Interior stripped. Straiten the bent bits. Bring on the spray putty. In the picture on the left you can see the dash re-constructon. Factory speedo home remains, but grills are removed and filled. The dash was later drilled and fitted with a set of VDO 50mm gauges to monitor Oil Pressure, Oil Temp, Fuel, and Battery. To the right of the speedo is an 80 mm VDO 7000 RPM tacho. I modified the factory speedo by fitting the internals from a later model Kombi km/h speedo. It seems to work ok, and only required a slightly longer drive cable from a Kombi also to get it working. As the wheel diameters are nearly the same as the Kombi's it should be close to accurate. Thats to say as accurate as you would expect to see a 1971 speedo. This page was last updated on 04/04/02. |
